Videographer’s Instructional Course (V.I.C.)

The MDM Videographer’s Instructional Course (V.I.C.) is for anyone (novices to experts) who wants to know as much as possible about WEDDING and Event VIDEOGRAPHY. As opposed to other instructional courses which might overload & confuse the beginner, we offer purely the essential information that you will need to create the most professional Wedding and Event Videos on the Market. This intensive 2-day course is specifically designed within a very simple 3 structure classification:

* Pre-Production: Includes Equipment and other essentials to get you started.

* Production: The Actual Coverage of the Special Event to be Videotaped.

* Post Production: The Final stages of Editing your Video.

As an MDM VT (Video Trainee/student), our workshop will virtually teach you "everything" you’ll need to know about Wedding & Event Videography within this 3 Structure Classification system:

 

STANDARD 2 DAY ITINERARY


DAY 1.

Pre-Production

EQUIPMENT:

An introduction to the most affordable and commonly used video equipment that is currently being used by today’s wedding & Event videographers. From the differences between the 1 chip and 3 Chip DV Cameras to the choice of lights and editing equipment ---- from the pros & cons of using Monopods & Tripods to the best ways to transport your tools of the trade --- all your questions regarding what you’ll need to posses to get you started - shooting and editing your wedding & event productions will be covered.

A Standard Equipment Package List will be made available during this time.

 

Production

VIDEOGRAPHY AT THE CEREMONY:

This is not just a basic summery, but a total overview of everything the professional videographer needs to carry out to complete a successful shoot at the church, temple or any other place of Ceremony on the wedding day. As well as taking you through all the steps you will need to take to complete this portion of the day’s shooting schedule, included during this period will be several other related subject matters such as:

* How you can spot key family members without never having met them.

How & when to approach the priest, rabbi or judge regarding the restrictions of videotaping.

When & when-not to use wireless Microphones

Which side of the building offers the most valuable shooting Position.

How much taping is enough and how much taping is too much during the ceremony.

 

VIDEOGRAPHY AT THE RECEPTION HALL:

Again, this will not be a simple outline of shots to get, but a comprehensive plan of how to cover the second half of the wedding day. From finding the right exterior establishing shot of the banquet hall to the best camera techniques to use during the dancing celebration, you can be certain that after this portion of the instructional session you can be confident that everything you’ll need to know about the Reception Videotaping will have been accounted for … guaranteed. A sample of the topics covered include:

 

The Required but brief Shot list (Directory Board, Cake-Table, Guest-Table, Gifts Area, and more.

When and how to approach family & guests for testimonials.

Working around the Still Photographer (no matter how friendly or un-friendly they may be).

When and when not to use your lights.

Symmetry, Composition of Camera Operation during the Highlights of the Evening (Tossing of the bouquet, removal of the Garter, tossing of the Garter, Cutting of the Cake etc..)

During this time, you will be given a summary of valuable inside information to simplify your work and obtain remarkable footage. The tips alone will be worth the entry of the class.

How to handle rambunctious wedding guests - Knowing what to say and what not to say.

 

SAMPLE WEDDINGS:

We will critique a condensed sample of poorly covered wedding footage to review the don’ts of Wedding videography -- as well as examine samples of correct and skillful video coverage.

 

 DISCUSSION TIME, Q/A SESSION:

Finally, at the end of the session, you will be given an opportunity to ask any and all additional questions you may have regarding the day’s lessons.

Day 2.

POST PRODUCTION

 

This section of the training will comprise of the Editing Portion of your production.

Topics will include: Introduction to Non-linear editing, Creating superior Photo Montages, Organizing your video footage, Effective Editing techniques, Transitions (Where and when to use Dissolves and Effects is not as simple as it may appear), Titling and use of Music.

Although there are many Editing systems in the market, Sample Editing Exercises will be performed using a standard Digital Video Non Linear Editing System. And, whereas every conceivable wedding editing scenario cannot possibly be covered, MDM VTs (Video Trainees / students) should be well-acquainted with the editing technique and concept to handle most editing situation that they will come across.

Although Digital editing has literally changed the entire complexion of the video business, MDM VTs with little or no editing experience will be spared the complexities of it all and will be familiar enough to start simple editing upon the completion of this class.

 

Optional 3rd day

MDM is offering an optional 3rd day. This additional day is an "On-Location Work Study" where MDM VTs (Video Trainee’s / students) get the chance to actually watch & participate at a genuine taping of a wedding or an event. There is no extra charge for this day. We strongly recommend to you to make time in your schedule for this day.


Again, this course is designed to familiarize you with virtually all aspects of Wedding and event Videography by working you through all the different steps necessary to create your videos in a simple, direct, and yet professional manner.
